“So this just happened,” were the words sent out by Channel V’s social media manager from the ARIA Awards last night when confronted with… well, we’re actually not sure what. All we know is that everyone wants to know just what is going on.

Okay, so here’s the story: as the ARIA Awards red carpet got underway, amongst all the local and international stars and industry heavyweights was one bizarre man in a white bodysuit and woollen cocoon, joined by an entourage of oiled up muscle men.

“This guy, who no one knows, just arrived in a cashmere wool cocoon. Made from three and a half kilometres of wool and 70 meters of steel,” read one summary on social media. Now the question on everybody’s lips is: who is he?

BuzzFeed have gone ahead and done some digging and according to their sources, the man is Charles Corby aka Wentworth. Wentworth apparently found it fitting to make his entry into the music industry in a manner that’s like Bjork at the Oscars meets Lady Gaga everywhere.

According to Wentworth’s official Facebook page, where you can check out some of his music, Charles is a singer and songwriter and if you were wondering, yes he is related to Matt Corby, which only leaves like, a few hundred questions unanswered.

“Hailing from Melbourne, Wentworth set out to deliver his own blend of EDM and pop, creating eclectic, well balanced and passionate pop songs sitting somewhere in between conventional structure and a unique compositional approach,” his Facebook bio reads.

“In terms of influences, this Australian artist owes to film scores and classical composers as much as to visionary pop icons such as Christina Aguilera, Sia and Miley Cyrus just to name a few.”

“Wentworth is also a pop songwriter having penned successful songs, and is a perfectionist when it comes to his productions, striving to reach a well-balanced compromise between the elements in each song, in order to reflect his personal values as much as possible.”

“Wentworth is currently in development. New single release late 2015.” This, of course, begs the question of just what an unknown artist who is “currently in development” was doing making such an ostentatious debut on the ARIAs red carpet?

Was he the special guest of a major label for whom he’s the next big thing? Is he just some random who decided to gatecrash the ARIAs with his cocoon and hunk brigade? Is the whole thing just an epic-level trolling? We’ll let you decide.

So this happened… #VARIAs #ARIAs
