Fresh from supporting soul songstress Meg Mac on her sold out ‘Never Be’ tour in Perth and Sydney, buzzing Perth duo Lilt have today returned with their second single for 2015, ‘Capture’.

With the precedent set from their glittering last single, ‘Don’t Tell Me’ landing high rotation on triple j and clocking up over 200,000 online plays, ‘Capture’ signifies a new direction in the band’s aesthetic.

To celebrate their appearance at Disconnect Festival, WA this Fri, Dec 11th- Sun Dec 13th they’ve curated a killer mix of they best from the west.

JONI IN THE MOON – ‘TARANTELLA’

I first saw Joni in The Moon at the State of Art Festival earlier this year. I was supposed to be meeting some friends but Joni instantly captured my attention and I ended up completely forgetting about my friends and watching her entire set. I find her brand of experimental ‘art-pop’ deeply moving, exciting and beautiful. This song particularly resonates with me as it describes her struggle with mental illness. (Louise)

METHYL ETHEL – ‘TWILIGHT DRIVING’

I absolutely love the chorus in this track. It’s very conscious pop and it get’s stuck in my head for days but it still manages to be dreamy and lucid. I grew up in the south west of WA and my dad used to always remind me to “watch out for the roo’s” when I first got my drivers licence. (Louise)

ELK ROAD – ‘NOT TO WORRY’

When putting this list together I wondered whether I should include this track as Elk Road certainly doesn’t need any publicity help. Buuuttt I just love this track. The vocal melody is beautiful and the production is meticulous. Rory has been making waves in the Perth dance scene for a while now but I think this track is showing a new and unique direction for him and he will probably rule us all very shortly. (Louise)

RILEY PEARCE – ‘BRAVE’

Slow, stripped back and raw. Relaxing but still captivating. Riley’s vocals are beautiful and the lyrics are powerful. Also the inclusion of the trumpet hits you in all the right ways. Dem feels! I am really looking forward to the release of his next EP. (Louise)

KUČKA – ‘DIVINITY’

One of our old classmates from WAAPA is Laura aka KUCKA. Divinity is hands down my favourite WA release of the last year – it’s just an exceptionally beautiful track with great lyrics, production, and the end is perfect. (Matt)

TOBACCO RAT – ‘TRENCHTOWN 2020’

Jake is in a stack of top tier WA bands as well as his solo work. Always experimental and always interesting.  (Matt)

MEG MAC – ‘NEVER BE’

Technically she’s from Sydney, but she studied at WAAPA and kicked off her career here, so I’m claiming it. I love this song and its been in high rotation for the last few months for me. Incredible live too. (Matt)

SARAH PELLICANO – ‘ALL FOR YOU’

Sarah is in a heap of WA acts, and is a criminally underrated songwriter and lyricist – I think the lyrics on this track are truly heartfelt and beautiful. Hope to see some new music from her soon. (Matt)
