Melbourne based alt-rock talents Vinten have recently unveiled their stunning EP What Has Been to impressive acclaim. Strumming heavily on the heartstrings of his audience, the band’s frontman and songwriter Cameron Paice offers his darkest and most brutally honest songs in the form of this five track release.

Traversing the world of pop, folk and alt-rock Vinten’s ability to craft moving and emotional but still infectious and upbeat indie gems is second to none.

To  celebrate the release of this EP, and the upcoming launch at Public Bar (details below) Cameron has kindly penned a tack by track run down of the record which you can check out below. For more info visit the Vinten Facebook page. What Has Been is out now via Bandcamp.

You Don’t Know Me

‘You Don’t Know Me’ is that song that I’ve wanted to write for a while but never felt I captured right until now. Each instrument really has its place and shines in this song. This was one of the first tracks we tackled in the studio and it all came together really nicely.

Troubles

This one is about how I first thought that a certain someone would be able to relieve me of my troubles however in the end that person became the issue. This is probably one of the first tracks that encouraged me to take a little more of a rockier approach to some of my songs.

Until You Fall In Love Again

This track is one of those special songs that is down on paper and finished in twenty minutes. Whilst recording with Nick Huggins down in Point Lonsdale, I picked up his 125 year old guitar he had received from his grandmother years ago. This song was the first thing I played, and it just flowed. I guess it shows that telling the truth is the easiest story to tell.

Don’t Turn Around

Don’t Turn Around was the first song that I wrote in 2015. I had just come back from a new years festival and my voice was shot! I think because I had basically lost my voice I started singing in a different way and discovered a higher end to my vocals. It’s definitely the most pop track on the EP.

Creep

Creep really became a song after I played the first verse and a line or two of the chorus to friends one night. Once they didn’t stop singing it back to me – I knew I had to finish it. The final structure of the track only came together the day before we went into the studio to record it which is why I think its one of my favorites on the EP.
