More details have emerged about Legion, the potential Soundwave replacement festival that’s being organised by John Sankey, drummer for Devil You Know, who were originally slated for the Soundwave 2016 lineup.

In a video message to fans, Sankey said that if the crowdfunded festival does indeed go ahead, it won’t be scheduled for the same time as the cancelled Soundwave. Organisers are instead aiming for March next year.

As was previously suggested, Sankey confirmed that the festival would be entirely funded through donations collected via Kickstarter. Sankey stressed that he wants to maintain transparency so fans know where their money is going.

Furthermore, Legion won’t even touch the money that’s been pledged until they’ve raised enough to actually put on the festival, likely part of an attempt to avoid the financial debacle that eventually consumed Soundwave.

As for the lineup, Sankey is keeping it under wraps, but he did reveal that some of the acts on the Soundwave 2016 lineup have been confirmed and the festival will support the local scene by booking Aussie metal acts on the bill.

“We already have a heap of brilliant bands that have reached out to us and will have confirmations soon so, hopefully, we will be able to start announcing the line up this week,” Sankey told The Music.

“We’re going to try really hard not to drip feed the line up to you but, because this is all happening pretty quickly, it might come through in bits and pieces because we want to get you the info as soon as we have it.”

Commenting on the ongoing saga surrounding Soundwave’s ticket refunds, Sankey said while Legion won’t be able to give free tickets to punters still awaiting a Soundwave refund, they are looking to do something special for those still owed money.
