While some saw tragedy in the collapse of Soundwave 2016, certain members of the local music industry saw nothing but opportunity, including the organisers of the eagerly anticipated Legion Music Festival, which everyone hopes hits its ambitious crowdfunding target.

The folks at Destroy All Lines, who recently nabbed Soundwave’s former General Manager, and Melbourne venue Plastic also saw the chance to carpe diem and recently announced an Australia Day Eve gig featuring several bands paying tribute to members of the Soundwave 2016 lineup.

Across four band rooms and two levels, Four Words to Choke Upon will be covering the work of Disturbed, Bullet For My Valentine, and Killswitch Engage; All Story Glory will cover All Time Low, New Found Glory, and The Story So Far; and Late Nights will pay tribute to NOFX, Millencolin, and Frenzal Rhomb.

Tickets are available on the door only, which opens at 9pm on Australia Day Eve (that’s Monday, 25th January, for the unpatriotic among you). Organisers promise cheap bourbon and vodka, $4 pots all night long, and $10 booze buckets.

While it sounds like it’ll be a good time for all concerned, the best part about the event is the way it’s being promoted, which is to say, organisers are trolling the hell out of Soundwave and its controversial and outspoken founder, AJ Maddah.

For starters, the press release makes a point of saying that “all acts [are] confirmed“, an obvious stab at Soundwave, whose public downfall first started when Bring Me The Horizon revealed they hadn’t actually signed on to perform at the 2016 event.

The posters for the event also crib heavily from the official Soundwave 2016 artwork. However, the real magic is happening over on Plastic’s official Facebook page, where the social media manager is even taking stabs at Maddah himself:

While we’re certainly not advocating kicking a man when he’s down, we must say the deftly placed fedora on the gig poster is an inspired comedic touch. It’s no wonder Plastic have decided to set it as their current profile picture.

Meanwhile, Legion Music Festival have spared Soundwave and are instead focusing on getting the festival off the ground. In order to proceed, the festival’s Pozible campaign will need to raise more than $3 million.

At the time of writing, the campaign has raised $263,910 from a total of 1,085 supporters. It’s an impressive feat, no doubt, but with just 14 days to go, organisers will need pledgers to contribute more than $2.25 million in two weeks.
