A new Australian startup wants to eliminate the guesswork from travelling to the world’s greatest music festivals by crafting custom travel packages that will take Aussie punters to events like Japan’s Fuji Rock and South Korea’s Ultra Festival.

Founded by avid traveller and music enthusiast Elizabett Akerlund, Milky Beats Travel is bringing the concept of the music festival holiday tour, something well-established in the UK, into the Australian market where it hasn’t yet been attempted.

“Some of my greatest memories have been at music festivals where I have had some of the best natural highs because music is something that really brings people together, no matter where you come from,” Akerlund told StartupSmart.

The idea for Milky Beats Travel was sparked when Akerlund realised the difficulties of organising trips from Australia to overseas festivals, such as contending with language barriers and general organisational strife.

“It’s hard to get enough people to travel with you, there are language barriers and some of these festivals are located in really remote areas so it’s very difficult to organise yourself,” she said.

Milky Beats Travel cuts through the upheaval by providing all-inclusive tour packages with VIP access to a range of the world’s most high-profile festival destinations. The tours are also designed to encourage multiple trips.

“Music festivals change every year so the experience is never the same,” Akerlund said. The first round of tours will take place this year, with trips to Ultra in Korea, Fuji Rock in Japan, Barrakud in Greece, Sziget Festival in Hungary, and Zokout in Singapore.

And Akerlund assures travellers every experience is luxe: “I’ve officially linked with major travel festivals to provide VIP transfers and VIP festival tickets. I’ve selected the best accommodation available, whether it be camping at the festival or in a prime location nearby.”

“Every restaurant I take them to, I have been to and loved. Everything is personally handpicked.” There are plans for a Milky Beats Travel app and the website, which is mobile, laptop, and computer friendly will go live 15th January.
