Only a few more sleeps until Australia Day (and for a lucky few a super long long weekend). The other day we published a guide to the best Hottest 100 parties happening around the nation, and one killer party we did mention was the free festival in Parramatta.

For those who missed it, the great folk at  Parramatta City Council are throwing a massive all-day party at Parramatta Park with a line up that’s one of the best we’ve seen. Featuring Jungle Giants, I Know Leopard, KLP (live), World Champion, Hau, Polish Club, Luen, Letters to Lions, Antipodean Rock Collective (which feature member of Jet, You Am I, Spiderbait and and The Wrights) and MC Shantan Wantan Ichiban it’s all free, all ages and all day!

This sounded like a perfect Aus Day to us, so celebrate this event, we caught up with the festival line up to ask them what their perfect Australia Day holiday looks like. For more info on Parramatta City’s Aus Day celebrations, visit www.ausdayparramatta.com.au or follow the hashtag #AusDayParra.

Mark Wilson (ex-Jet), now Antipodean Rock Collective

“Being appreciative of all the good things I have and try to understand to a small degree, the cost.
Definitely get together with friends, most likely fire the BBQ up and laugh a lot.

Tune into the current musical landscape with JJJ hottest 100…and lament not being in it anymore… (juuuust kidding). If it’s a bloody hot day, put the sprinkler on the hose and let it rip.”

KLP

“The triple j Hottest 100 blaring on the radio and all your best mates around to work up a sweat in a backyard dance off!”

Jungle Giants

“You’ve definitely gotta have Hottest 100 on while kissing friends in the pool.”

Polish Club

“While there are heaps of things that can contribute to a fulfilling, meaningful Straya Day, there are two things you can do to ensure you and your mates stumble back into the office the day after knowing that the figurative jack hammer in your head and weights on your eyelids are totally worth it.

1) You and your 13 closest mates sitting in 8-person inflatable pool, high-fiving each other as Polish Club’s ‘Beeping’ drops on air during triple j’s Hottest 100, because you and every single one of your mates voted for it and are totally chuffed that your vote made a difference. Your tears splash into the tepid, murky pool water as you raise your cans of pre-mix for a toast to democracy in action.

2) Meanwhile, Jono’s also basking in high-fives and pats on the back, as he was smart enough to think of the unsung hero of backyard barbies: the humble condiment. Jono knows that there’s nothing more disappointing than a perfectly cooked snag having to be eaten without some sort of sauce. You might as well not eat at all. Jono also knows that good condiments are exy. So he made sure everyone brought one. Brucie brought his classic fave, BBQ sauce. Mandy brought some weird, but surprisingly delicious coconut stuff, because she knew that Darren was gonna cook some Vietnamese snags. And thank god for Stevo’s mustard because Sally-Anne brought dijonnaise, which everyone knows is rubbish.”

Letters to Lions

“Straight up beers, mates and cranking the Hottest 100.”
