Many consider The Rubens’ gold-certified single ‘Hoops’ to be a shoo-in for the top 10 of the triple J Hottest 100. The song has clearly resonated with a significant portion of Aussie music lovers.

None more so, however, than Rubens super-fan Alex Kay, who recently posted a very impressive tribute to the track.

“Dear The Rubens. In 2015 ‘Hoops’ went Gold. Just a note to say that I am partly responsible,” Kay recently wrote on the band’s official Facebook page, along with a video of her and her mates miming to the track.

No big deal, you say? Well, the clip was six months in the making and compiled from stockpiles of footage taken via Snapchat. “A huge apology to everyone who spent any time with me last year,” Kay wrote.

“I took over 12 minutes worth of Hoops footage with the first vid ever taken on July 29th. Its been a bloody long journey. But thanks for coming into my life Hoops. ‪#‎hoopsforhottest100‬.”

The clip quickly caught the band’s attention. They subsequently shared it with their thousands of Facebook followers with the laconic missive, “Dear Alex, Cheers.” It’s since accrued over 84,000 views and more than 2,350 likes.
