If you’re looking for some fresh new music, you may want to introduce yourself to Lazy Thinking, Australia’s newest record label, co-founded by Cassandra Wilkinson, whom you may know as the co-founder and president of Sydney’s beloved community station FBi.

Lazy Thinking is on a mission “to find, develop and release music by a generation of Australian innovators and trailblazers” and is set to catapult itself right into the Australian music industry during a showcase event on Thursday, 11th February at Sydney’s Red Rattler.

The launch will feature appearances from Rita Revell, Greenwave Beth, JaysWays and Artefact, establishing the label as “a fresh new vanguard of progressive Aussie music” inspired by labels such as Mute, Warp, and Nonesuch.

“As a co-founder of FBi I’ve been a cheerleader for Sydney music since 1995,” Wilkinson said. “I’ve always believed that life is better with more music in it and that Sydney is better with more music in it.”

“Introducing audiences to the best new noises we make right here is my passion and that’s what this label is all about. Starting a label is a natural – if overdue – progression. It’s one more way for me to help local artists find people who will love their music.”

“I’m working with great friends on a project that means the world to us – I can’t wait to get started.” Lazy Thinking are hoping to sign artists who are able to strike a balance between “serious critical acclaim and broader appeal”.

The February launch event will be the first of a series of live music nights set to take place on the first Thursday of each month at Red Rattler titled ‘Lazy Thinking Presents’, with an emphasis on profiling and supporting unsigned artists.
