You’ve submitted your triple j Hottest 100 votes (if you’re smart, you didn’t leave it to the very last second), you’ve sorted out your Australia Day party plans, and you’re finally ready to sit back and enjoy the countdown.

But as you sip from your tinnie and enjoy the world’s biggest fan-voted music poll, spare a thought or two for all the good that Australian aid has done overseas in our name and we can and should do even more.

That’s what former triple j presenter Tom Ballard would like you to do. This Australia Day, he’ll be pairing the traditional Hottest 100 with the Proudest 100. Translation: Tom will be linking every song in the Hottest 100 to something great achieved by Australian aid.

“I’ve taken the challenge to link every song that makes the countdown to Australian achievements we can all be proud of, the grew things all Aussies have achieved through Australian aid,” Tom explains in the clip below. “Sounds tenuous? It sure is!”

“Here’s how it could work: if ‘Say My Name’ by Peking Duk makes the countdown, I might find that it’s been viewed 1,710,400 on YouTube… that’s pretty much the same number of people that Austalian aid has helped enrol in school in the Pacific region alone.”

Try it yourself at home this Australia Day. For example, you could try linking Major Lazer’s ‘Lean On’ or Tame Impala’s ‘Let It Happen’ to a great Aussie aid achievement and let everyone know about it using the hashtag #Proudest100.
