In December last year we had the pleasure of premiering local rapper Kirklandd’s single ‘Right Now’ which we described as “a hip hop gem oozing with attitude and bravado.” Less than two months since its release, Kiriklandd is now back with a killer follow up titled ‘Helpless Eldest’.

Propelled by a ridiculously smooth flow, ‘Helpless Eldest’ is a prefect introduction to the undeniable talent from the Canberra based MC.  Focussing on a more EDM-infused throwback to 90’s hip hop, the single blends funky live bass and bouncy EDM synths to form a building swing in its chorus, which Kirklandd flows over with intricate storytelling inspired by artists like Nas or Raekwon.

According to Kirklandd the story of the ‘Helpless Eldest’ sees an elder sibling faced with the impending responsibility of raising his younger brother after the loss of his father, all the while struggling to balance this with his own infatuations: ‘Strip me of my passion for fashion I’m just a manikin’.

This year will see Kirklandd prepare for the launch of his debut EP. Following his work with Allday, Hilltop Hoods and 360, Aria winning and platinum record selling producer Cam Bluff has joined forces with Kirklandd for the project.
