A severe thunderstorm hit the Finnish Sonisphere festival on Sunday afternoon leaving 40 injured, two of which were in a serious condition. Most only suffered minor injuries, but some had to be taken to hospital for treatment. Despite the storm only lasting five minutes, it managed to decimate the second stage, leaving it irreparable, and destroyed much of the equipment including Motley Crue’s drum kit. The Crue were consequently forced to cancel their appearance. Festival troopers, Alice Cooper and Iron Maiden, refused to be sidelined by the storm and continued to play full sets.

Bruce Dickenson from Iron Maiden told the audience “The stage over there is completely fucked. Motley Crue have gone home as their stuff is fucked and our stuff is fucked, but we don’t care. We’re not going home until you go home.” Now that’s rock ‘n roll!
