Between playing drums in one of Australia’s most loved rock bands The Living End, multi-instrumentalist Andy Strachan has found the time to record and release his first solo self titled EP.

After his first single ‘Follow The Sun’ receiving plenty of love across the nation, Andy is now set to release his the full four track EP.

Andy explains how the EP came together  “So I’ve finally got around to releasing four tunes I recorded a little over a year ago. I played everything apart from bass and some guitar noises on CCTV (Thanks Caz and Paulie).

“It was recorded, produced and mixed by my dear friend Paul Woody Annison and engineered by Dan Caz Caswell at Red Door Studios and my man room. I did it because I wanted to. I had a lot of fun doing it and I’m fairly proud of the results.

“It’s been a real challenge and a steep learning curve trying to do it all on my own but I’ve really enjoyed it and can’t wait to do it all over again. Turn it up and have it a listen. Hope you dig it!”

To celebrate the release of the EP, Andy has given us a stream which you can check out below but he and his daughter Abby have penned a list of their favourite childhood songs as an homage to the incredibly cute EP artwork.

Andy’s top 5 childhood tunes

Bill Haley And The Comets – ‘Rock Around The Clock’
This was my first taste of rock’n’roll. I was obsessed with the drums at the start so I’d play it over and over again on my grandparents record player.  They left it to me when they passed away and now it’s in my house with that very same record! Still sounds brilliant!

The Stranglers – ‘Peaches’
The bass line… It’s so dirty! I’d never heard bass sound quite as tough and gritty! Reminds me of summer, long car trips and long days on the beach.

Kiss – ‘I Was Made For Loving You’
Dynasty was the first record (cassette) I ever bought.
I was in the kiss army.
I wanted to be Peter Criss.
I used to paint my face.
I don’t need to say anymore.

Boney M. – ‘Rivers Of Babylon’
My folks still give me a hard time about this one. Apparently I used to sing “by the riverside coffee lounge.” In my mind, they were the lyrics and that was that. I’d sing it loud and proud.

Madness – ‘Our House’
I loved Madness. They are such a fun band to listen to and hearing those songs today brings back some amazing memories of just having a blast as a kid. Madness always bring a smile to my face.

Abby’s top 5

Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars – ‘Uptown Funk
Who doesn’t like this tune?!
I love it.
It is a cracker!

Sheppard – ‘Geronimo’
This is a brilliant hairbrush lip syncing song. There have been many performances and dance routines carried out to this tune.

Toni Basil – ‘Mickey’
Abby found this one on Spotify and instantly loved it. The start sounds incredibly similar to Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’… Hmmmmm. Both very catchy pop tunes and I freely admit to dancing and singing along when either get played in our house.

Ariana Grande – ‘Break Free’
This one is another performance tune that generally involves a costume of some sort and some very passionate shuteye singing.
Just recently we had a very well rehearsed choreographed performance in the lounge room featuring three other kids from our street. Brilliant.

Katy Perry – ‘Roar’
As above.
