As some readers will remember, a few months back Courtney Barnett managed to pick up her first ARIA Award of the year when she took home the award for Best Cover Art for her debut LP, Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit.
The understated line drawing of a chair, along with the rest of Barnett’s artwork, has become emblematic of the Australian singer-songwriter’s stripped-back style of confessional rock and roll, free of pretence and bells and whistles.
It’s a testament to Barnett’s swift rise and the revered place she now holds in the Australia rock landscape, as well as the impact her debut had has, that she and her artwork have already been the subject of numerous parodies, including one by The Bennies.
As Tone Deaf reported, back in November the punk rockers unveiled a tongue-in-cheek satire on Barnett’s ‘Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go To The Party’ artwork, with red marker cheekily crossing out select words to read “The Bennies Really Care If You Don’t Go To The Party”.
Now, fellow Australian punk outfit Ausmuteants have unveiled their own Barnett parody, this time taking on the cover of her debut album. However, as you can see below, the band’s parody is a little more, uh, irreverent than the Bennies’.
