We Australians sometimes like to think that Australia is just kind of our thing. We love it, of course, but the rest of the world doesn’t really bother with us, do they? Not in the way they do with America and England and that.

After all, we’re so far away and besides that whole Crocodile Dundee thing, we’ve never been all that interested in exporting our culture overseas the way the aforementioned global superpowers always seem to be doing.

That’s why we’re so pleasantly surprised whenever a big-time rock legend like, say, Elton John, knows a thing or two about what’s going on in our music scene. But as he recently revealed on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Elton knows his Aussie music.

Asked whether he ever feels inclined to rest on his laurels, the icon explained, “I’m only looking forward, I don’t look back,” before citing a few newer artists whom he’s particularly fond of, including our girl Sarah Blasko.

“When you hear something by someone new, like Ed Sheeran or this girl called Grimes or there’s a girl in Australia called Sarah Blasko, whenever you hear something new from the young that inspires you, it makes you feel like I’m gonna do that, I want to do that.”

Of course, it’s not the first time Elton has professed a love for Aussie music. He’s famously a fan of homegrown dance outfit PNAU, calling their 2007 self-titled album the greatest record he’d heard in 10 years and signing them to his management company.

So does Elton own a copies of Sarah Blasko’s albums? Well, as he explains to Corden, it’s likely he owns four of each, since he needs one for each of his houses. Check out Elton’s appearance on Corden’s Carpool Karaoke below.
