It’s a brand new year and we’re well past Hottest 100 season, which means lots of us are scrambling around looking for something new to listen to. Thankfully, triple j have gone ahead and lent us a helping hand.

triple j Unearthed have just unveiled their forecast for the year, giving us a sneak peek of the artists they reckon are set to blow up in the next 12 months, and if past predictions are anything to go by, they’re usually pretty accurate.

We managed to track down triple j’s Next Crop from 2014 and it’s basically a roll call of every Aussie band and artist who blew up that year, including Bad//Dreems, Tkay Maidza, Gang of Youths, Meg Mac, Remi, and The Bennies.

Naturally, triple j have kind of a big say in which Australian artists make it big, so their 2016 list also serves as a good indicator of which artists you’ll be hearing on the Js when you tune in this year.

“In this list, you’ll find some names you might know, some you might not, and some that are have only been up on triplejunearthed.com for a couple of days. All of them have left lasting impressions on us,” the station writes.

So who are the names? Leading the pack is Animaux’s Alex Lahey, followed by Melbourne outfit Harbours, Sydney duo Iljus Wifmo, garage rockers IV League, dance floor filler Jess Kent, electronic young gun Kuren, and Canberra native LTC.

Listeners should also keep an ear out for the dulcet sounds of Gold Coast songwriter Old Sault, Western Australian four-piece Verge Collection, and finally West Thebarton Brothel Party, who have the best band name we’ve heard in months.

Check out triple j’s playlist of their Ones To Watch In 2016 here and peep the full list below.
