It really pays to live in Melbourne sometimes. It’s not only the world-class cafes and laid-back culture that make the Victorian capital so great, it’s also an internationally recognised hub for all things musical.

You can walk the streets at night secure in the knowledge that you can get into a venue after 1.30am and there’s an ever-expanding roster of awesome venues catering to every possible taste, genre, and style.

Whether you’re looking for a crowdfunded, BYO, punk rock dive or a mighty arena hosting the world’s biggest acts, you can find all of it in Melbourne and the city now has a new three-level mega venue to boast about.

As The Age reports, the owners of Speakeasy HQ, which is located in a quiet back room just off Little Bourke Street in the CBD, have managed to build the small space into a popular and bustling entertainment hot spot.

Hosting a range of performances that spans everything from music to burlesque and even sword-swallowing and fire-breathing, Speakeasy HQ has outgrown its current location and is ready to move into some swanky new digs.

The owners will expand Speakeasy HQ into a much larger venue featuring three performance spaces spread across three levels, all housed inside a historic, gold rush-era bank located on 522 Flinders Street.

Set to open on 18th March, the new venue will boast a cabaret lounge, theatre, and purpose-built cinema and organisers already have a host of entertainment set to christen the new space, including musical performances.

Speakeasy HQ will continue to operate at their current venue until 5th March, with Nikki Nouveau performing a tribute to Edith Piaf and a huge final Vaudeville cavalcade set to close out the venue’s final night. Check their website for more details.
