Usually when we write about a musician having their gear stolen from them, the theft occurred in a venue where they were performing or outside of the venue, with the thief breaking into their car or van.

But as Tristan James, a friend of former Yacht Club DJs member Gareth Harrison, writes, early in the morning of 27th February, Gareth arrived home to find the place had been robbed and his gear stolen.

Among the items stolen, the thieves took the producer and DJ’s MacBook. “This means that he has lost all his work, his ability to earn money, his productions and 10 years of hard work,” Tristan writes on his GoFundMe page.

“The equipment taken was valued at more than $7,000 and as someone who has dedicated himself to art and entertainment, that money isn’t easy to come by.” To give Gareth a helping hand, Tristan has set up a crowdfunding campaign.

“Gaz has entertained us all with his music over the years. Yacht Club DJs, Champagne Internet, Rick Moranis Overdrive, Areas, Talent Squad and that one time only appearance of his dubstep project Gold Coast Suns!” he writes.

“Gaz has begrudgingly given me permission to set up this GoFundMe campaign but he will be eternally grateful for any help you can provide.” At the time of writing, the campaign has managed to raise just under $5,000 of its $7,000 target.

Those who donate to the campaign will receive an exclusive “thank-you mixtape download” put together especially by Gareth to show “his true appreciation for the support”. Check out the campaign via GoFundMe here.
