Arena rock giants Foo Fighters are embarking on an indefinite hiatus. Whilst we’re still waiting on an official word from the band, in a new interview drummer Taylor Hawkins confirmed the band are taking a break.

The news comes amid rumours the band are planning on breaking up in the wake of a post made to the band’s official Facebook page. The band recently took to social media to inform fans of an impending announcement.

A representative for the group has since dismissed any claims the band are breaking up so that frontman Dave Grohl can pursue a solo career as “utterly ridiculous“, but Hawkins has confirmed the band are on hiatus.

Speaking to Artisan News (via Consequence of Sound) back in January, Hawkins jokingly referred to their break as an “i-hate-us”. “We’re on ihateus right now, we’re on an indefinite ihateus,” he explained in the newly published interview.

“[It’s] not because we don’t love each other, or don’t want to make music together … We did so much in the last five or six years — we as a band could go into the studio tomorrow and have just as much fun as we ever had, but I think the world needs a break from us for a little while.”

Grohl previously alluded to the band taking a break in a missive accompanying the band’s 2015 Saint Cecilia EP, writing, “Maybe these songs are the bread crumbs that will help us find our way back when it’s time.”

“We could use a nice wander through the woods right about now. Another empty journal, another tap on the shoulder … those things are never far behind. It’s what lies ahead in those woods that excites me now.”

The band previously embarked on a hiatus back in 2008, taking a three-year break from touring before returning with 2011’s Wasting Light, which they promoted with a hugely successful world tour.
