Update: Happy April 1st folks.

After weeks of seemingly wild rumours and rampant speculation from fans and the media, the new frontman of legendary Australian rockers AC/DC has been revealed and it’s… you.

At least, it could be. According to a leaked press release acquired by Tone Deaf, AC/DC will embark on the search for a new frontman with a brand new reality series titled Long Way To The Top.

The veteran band are hoping to emulate the success of their fellow countrymen INXS, who “revitalised” their “careers” after recruiting a new frontman with the reality singing competition Rock Star: INXS.

According to guitarist and founding member Angus Young, Long Way To The Top is the next logical step for the band. “We’ve put our logo on pretty much everything else, so a TV show just makes sense,” he told Tone Deaf.

Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose will serve as producer and vocal coach on the series, which explains why he was recently seen leaving the same Atlanta rehearsal studio as the band.

“Axl was meeting with the band to discuss the format for the show and to share fashion tips,” a representative for the GNR frontman informed us. “Angus has been courting the cornrow look for a while now.”

The band’s looming North American tour dates will be further postponed to accommodate the band’s search for a replacement for longtime frontman Brian Johnson, who is no longer able to tour.

“After the doctor told Brian he was no longer able to continue with us on the road we had a band meeting and after polishing off some vegan macaroons and gluten-free quinoa brittle, we got on the phone to Simon Cowell,” Young added.

Cowell, the mastermind behind several successful reality singing competitions, including The X Factor and Rock Star: Hootie & the Blowfish, will serve as executive producer on the series.

“I didn’t actually know who AC/DC were, but once I learnt they were willing to pay me even more money for doing jack all, I jumped at the chance to work with them. That’s sort of my thing,” he said in a statement.

Long Way To The Top is set to air in the US on free-to-air but will be exclusive to Foxtel in Australia, with delayed updates airing on FOX8 in addition to weekly live pay-per-views. “Money,” Young explained.

Vocalists hoping to appear on the show can send in submissions now via the official AC/DC website.

Hopefuls have been asked to submit a video of themselves singing a rendition of Adele’s ‘Hello’. “That’s the sort of direction we’re moving in for our next album,” said Young.

Reports indicate original AC/DC frontman Dave Evans has already sent his submission in. “I hope they like it,” he was quoted as saying.

Production on Long Way To The Top is expected to begin later this month.
