As we’ve previously covered, Henry Rollins loves him some Australian bands. A frequent visitor to our shores (by his estimate, he’s made more than 30 trips Down Under), the former Black Flag frontman not only loves Aussie bands he really knows his stuff.

In a recent edition of his regular LA Weekly column Rollins wrote about his most recent visit to Australia, during which he presented the Australian Music Prize to Courtney Barnett and still found time to hit up a few of his favourite local record stores.

Linking up with Rice Is Nice operative Julia Wilson, the duo hit up Repressed Records in Newtown, where Rollins was introduced to the likes of “Nun, Tyrannamen, Thigh Master, Red Red Krovvy, Brando’s Island, Terry, [and] Cured Pink, to name a few” by store co-owner Chris Sammut.

The two spent the rest of the day “hitting store after store”, including “the very sturdy Red Eye Records”, which Rollins described as “Well stocked and assiduously curated, it is a mandatory visit”.

Uncle Hank had previously shown love to Melbourne outfit High Tension and Perth band Tired Lion on his KCRW show and he’s made several contributions to the Aussie rock, collaborating with the Hard Ons and producing The Mark of Cain’s Ill at Ease.

And he just can’t get enough. We caught Rollins gushing about Aussie bands once again in a recent column for LA Weekly, in which he announced that his radio show will soon be premiering the brand new Summer Flake album, Hello Friends.

“It’s a great record. I am happy we are able to bring this to you before the rest of the world gets it. I have always thought stuff like this was super cool. If I may be so bold, I think our show is the perfect place for something like this,” he wrote.

Hello Friends is the latest release from the Adelaide project and is set to drop this coming Friday, 8th April. If you want more info on the album, you can head over to the Rice Is Nice website and pre-order the record on limited edition red vinyl.

On the same show, the multi-talented Rollins also played cuts from the likes of The Saints, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Lowtide, and Royal Headache. You can see the man himself in the flesh when he returns Down Under this September (see below).
