Tigertown are currently on the road playing a string of headline dates this month to celebrate the release of their impressive Lonely Cities EP, which is out now.

Produced by the critically acclaimed Tommy English (BØRNS, Ladyhawke, and Robert DeLonge), Lonely Cities is the final product of countless hours on the road and in the studio as well as an extensive writing period for the band.

To get inside the band’s impressive songwriting pedigree on this record, we chatted with the band about some of the many talented writers they worked with and they also detailed the favourite albums from those writers. Check out the impressive pop linage below and of course if you haven’t yet check out Lonely Cities.

Writer: Jean-Philip Grobler

Album: St Lucia – When The Night
The moment ‘Elevate’ came on the radio, I pulled the car over and called the rest of the band. It was one of those moments, “Someone’s done it!” It was just after we’d finished touring our last EP and and we were all itching to create music that made us feel the way that classic pop songs did when we were kids. ‘Elevate’ does exactly that. It was about 18 months later we got the chance to write with Jean, and after giving him the fan treatment we became really good friends.

Writer: Tommy English

Album: BØRNS – Dopamine
We met Tommy English before the BØRNS album had dropped and in between us meeting and working together, Dopamine had become all of our favourite record. It’s the kind of album that you can listen from start to finish easily and then want to do it again. Obviously we were begging for Tommy to work with us after that and he said yes.

Ladyhawke – Wild Things
This album hasn’t come out yet, but a year ago Tommy English showed it to us. At the time he was unsure that it would ever be released but the first single just came out a couple of weeks ago. We love that song “Love Song” and we can hear so much of Tommy in it.

Writer: Justin Tranter

Album: Justin Bieber – Purpose
Justin Tranter wrote ‘Sorry’. It’s an undeniable pop song that we secretly sing everyday. When we were given the chance to write with Justin did everything we could do get there. Turns out we didn’t write any Tigertown songs, but we wrote two pop bangers for somebody. Charlie and I got to live out our secret pop fantasies for two whole days.

Writer: James Flannigan

Album: Jack Garratt – Phase
2 Songs on our upcoming album, we wrote with James Flannigan. James has an engineering credit on this Album so thats a long excuse to mention how much we love this Album. While we were on the road with St Lucia, we listened to Phase 5 times back to back, the day it came out. We then got the opportunity to play on the same show as him in Austin at SXSW. I would say it’s my favourite album in the last couple of years.
