As we reported last year, Thy Art Is Murder’s longtime vocalist CJ McMahon is no longer with the band, departing with a statement describing the harsh financial realities of life in a touring band.

Thy Art Is Murder obviously miss their longtime bandmate and friend, but the show must go on and they’re preparing to hit the road once again. This time they’re kicking off a US run for their Coffin Dragger tour.

Filling in on vocal duties is none other than Lochlan Watt, whom you may know as the host of triple j’s metal program The Racket. As Music Feeds notes, Watt did not appear on air this week.

Watt contributes vocal duties to Melbourne metal band COLOSSVS, who’ve previously toured with Thy Art. According to an Instagram post courtesy of Watt, the whole thing was actually kind of last-minute.

“At 5pm on Friday afternoon I got a message asking if I had a valid passport. Landed in Tucson, Arizona, USA on Monday. Tonight I play my first of 39 shows singing for Thy Art Is Murder. Woah,” he wrote.

Watt takes over from Molotov Solution frontman Nick Arthur, who previously took over vocal duties for McMahon. It’s presently unclear if Thy Art are shopping around for a permanent replacement for the singer.
