At Tone Deaf, we’re lucky in that we’ve had our fair share of interactions with rock and pop stars, but even we thought the rock star life was a breeze where everyone basically lets you get away with murder.

For a while there it looked as though Justin Bieber could seemingly engage in all manner of recidivist delinquency, like spray painting the wall of a Queensland hotel, and get little more than a couple headlines out of it.

But Bieber never took on Townsville’s Warrina Cineplex, ’cause trust us, they ain’t having none of that. Grinspoon frontman Phil Jamieson experienced their iron-fisted rule first hand recently after he was refused entry.

According to Jamieson, he was refused entry to the Townsville movie house because his attire did not adhere to their strict dress code. “So this is the shirt that got me refused entry at a Townsville cinema…?” he wrote on Instagram.

Jamieson accompanied the post with an image of white singlet with the word “Frothin” printed on it. The singlet was made by aptly named Byron Bay outlet Afends, who couldn’t pay for this kind of publicity.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Jamieson had performed in Townsville on Saturday night as part of his current solo tour and he apparently felt like catching a flick whilst in town.

“The reason I was given was … The shirt had no sleeves,” Jamieson said. Indeed, a quick look at the Warrina Cineplex website states, “singlets and sleeveless shirts are not permitted” for male patrons.
