In case you hadn’t heard, Coachella, one of the world’s biggest music festivals and the official start of the US summer festival season, kicked off in Indio, California over the weekend, instantly dominating culture headlines and Instagram feeds.

This year saw a healthy contingent of Aussie bands and artists making their way over to play the mammoth-sized event, including Courtney Barnett, Sia, Flume, Miami Horror, Nina Las Vegas, RUFUS, and festival favourites DMA’s.

To help fans get an idea of just what it’s like for our favourite Aussie artists behind the scenes at Coachella and to catch you up on all the things you missed if you weren’t there or weren’t watching the live stream, here are what your favourite Aussie bands got up to at Coachella.

Courtney Barnett

The Aussie superstar is no stranger to big festival stages anymore and now the masses that made the pilgrimage to Coachella this year are no longer strangers to her. It’s always hard to know if a buzzed-about artists is simply buzz alone, but judging by reactions on social media, Courtney blew everyone away.

Sia

Sia famously eschews live performances, save for her incredible appearances on television, and especially festival performances, but she absolutely brought the roof down during her rare appearance at Coachella. So much so that people are still talking about it days later.

Flume

This wasn’t Flume’s first rodeo and the golden boy of Aussie EDM is fast becoming a star in the US, so it’s hardly a surprise that he received an uproarious reception at Coachella, with a crowd of thousands singing along with every word of his latest single, ‘Never Be Like You’.

Miami Horror

Miami Horror have spent their last few years busying themselves Stateside and by the looks of things, they’ve managed to develop a serious following over in the US. Just watch this footage of hundreds of moshing punters giving the band everything they’ve got.

Nina Las Vegas

Nina Las Vegas is a staple of the Australian dance music industry and she’s fast becoming a staple of the international dance scene as well. The reception she received at Coachella will no doubt boost her international profile even further.

RUFUS

They may be billed as RUFUS DU SOL when Stateside (thanks to an unfortunate legal situation), but they’re still the band Australian fans know and love, providing the Indio crowd with their sleek and bassy synth-pop bangers.

DMA’s

At this point, it would be easier to list the festivals that DMA’s haven’t played. They know a thing or two about turning on a festival crowd and how to convert fans and those skills were on full display at Coachella.

Thanks @coachella
