Courtney Barnett redefined what it meant for an artist to “blow up” last year after she became the name on everybody’s lips with the release of her debut album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit.

The laconic Australian singer-songwriter garnered rave reviews for her debut full-length and the album went on to make several end-of-year lists, whilst adding Barnett to the lineups of several prestigious festivals and late-night shows.

Naturally, the prolific songsmith is already working on a follow-up. As Howl and Echoes reports, Barnett revealed she’s already penned a few songs that could make the follow-up to Sometimes I Sit and Think.

Speaking to interviewer Jason Bentley at Coachella, Barnett revealed she hasn’t stopped writing songs since the release of Sometimes I Sit and Think. “I’ve been writing since the last one I guess,” she revealed.

However, it’s too early to tell just where the songs will appear. After all, Barnett’s been known to drop the odd EP. “I’m not very good at having goals and timelines, so I’m kind of just writing with no final thing in mind,” she said.

“A lot of the new songs I haven’t even shown the band yet, I’m still trying to write them… It’s a vulnerable time,” she continued. “I get nervous showing them to anyone in case they suck or something.”
