If you’re a Melbourne native, not only are you likely more than familiar with Chapel Street’s infamous Revolver Upstairs, you’ve had your share of all-nighters at the notorious late-night haunt, which is actually Melbourne’s most Uber’d destination.

Regulars at the venue, which has inspired two classic Reddit threads, are also intimately familiar with the Sunday or Monday morning scramble for a taxi or Uber car that inevitably comes at the end of an evening spent partying at Revs.

But what if it didn’t have to be this way? What if after you’re done partying you could just retire your warm, comfy bed, located just upstairs. Well, you’ll soon be able to, according to a new report from In The Mix.

According to the outlet, a planning permit has been posted by Stonnington Council approving the “partial demolition” of the building which houses Revolver, so that developers can build a six- and eight-storey extension.

The permit insists the “existing nightclub will remain, with no changes to its operating hours and capacity”, so you can still party from Friday night straight on through to Monday morning, it’s just that you’ll soon be able to climb a flight of stairs to get home.

Developers are looking to build three one-bedroom apartments, one three-bedroom apartment, and 22 two-bedroom apartments in the Revolver building, along with space for shops, offices, and a cafe. Now, we know what you’re thinking: ‘Why would you want to live above Revs?’

Well, thanks to Victoria’s ‘Agent of Change’ laws, developers moving into areas with existing live music spaces are responsible for soundproofing, so the building’s new tenants won’t have to worry about being kept up by the 24-hour debauchery on weekends.
