Perth outfit Tired Lion are still riding high on a wave of momentum following an incredibly successful 2015, which saw them winning triple j’s Unearthed Award, playing the main stage at Splendour, winning a WAMI, and supporting the likes of The 1975 and Kingswood.

They’re a band that just keeps leaping from strength to strength, recently announcing their addition to the prestigious Dew Process/UMA roster, their spot as one of the first Aussie additions to the Glastonbury lineup, and another nationwide Australian tour.

Now, they’ve finally returned with a new single, a raucous, thunderous piece of black candy the band have titled ‘Not My Friends’. It replicates the formula of previous big-hook bangers we’ve come to expect from the band, with a little added extra grit.

“I have never been inclined to go to extreme lengths to ‘fit in’ but at this time in my life I was so desperate to latch on to anything that made me feel like it was worth existing,” singer and songwriter Sophie Hopes said of the song.

“I eventually cut my losses, dropped the toxic people who appeared to be so pleasant to my face and moved on into a direction I chose for myself. I’m a lot happier being the outsider these days and I guess this was the song that justified the change.”
