Surprise releases are all the rage these days and James Blake is the latest artist to participate in the trend. He’s just given his Rick Rubin-produced third full-length album, The Colour in Anything, a surprise unveiling.

As Rolling Stone reports, yesterday saw the singer announce on Annie Mac’s BBC1 radio show that he would be dropping his eagerly anticipated third album and the follow-up to 2013’s Overgrown that evening.

The album features collaborations with Bon Iver and Frank Ocean, who co-wrote the album. Blake himself is no stranger to collaborations, having worked with the likes of Beyonce and Kanye West, who’ve both dropped surprise albums this year.

You can check out a cut from the album below or head on over to iTunes or Spotify, where the album is currently streaming. Yes, bucking that annoying trend, Blake’s new album is not exclusive to Tidal.
