The latest music video from Perth indie outfit Stillwater Giants for their single ‘Montage’ features a very natural performance from an unknown Australian actor playing a member of the Marine Safety unit at the end.

Well, that’s what we thought. Actually, that was an actually member of the Marine Safety squad who was booking the band because they filmed the end of their ‘Montage’ music video in member Kyle Lockyer’s unregistered boat.

“As we jumped on the boat, Marine Safety were waiting for us,” drummer Angus Watkins told WA Today. The clip was filmed around Perth’s Swan River, with most of the action taking place on the shore near Chidley Point in Mosman Park.

“Kyle’s boat wasn’t registered apparently and after some failed negotiations, we realised they were going to give us a fine so we thought screw it, let’s stage one more take as the guy hands [the fine] to us,” said Watkins.

According to the drummer, the officers were nice blokes but still fined the band $160 – not too bad considering how much most music videos cost. The boys also had the inspired idea of keeping the cameras rolling.

“He had no idea what the hell we were doing,” Watkins said. “He was just so dead-pan serious.” You can check out the band’s ‘Montage’ music video, including the cameo from Perth’s hard-working Marine Safety unit below.
