This year’s triple j Like A Version series has been a stellar display of talent so far. We’ve seen a heart-wrenching David Bowie cover, an ambitious mash-up from this year’s Hottest 100 winners, and a cover that showed us what Like A Version is meant to be.

However, the latest Like A Version has certainly divided opinion and if you ask us, it was honestly a fairly underwhelming performance. It comes courtesy of Ziggy the Bulldog, who made an ambitious choice in opting to cover Hudson Mohawke’s ‘Chimes’.

The song, of course, is an EDM instrumental with no vocals, but Like A Version is all about challenging convention. We also appreciate the homage to the original track by simply playing it over the air and laying vocals down on top of it.

But ultimately Ziggy’s Like A Version was a somewhat Icarian effort. The vocal performance simply wasn’t up to scratch and if we’re being brutally honest here, a little out of time. Props for the ambitious song selection, but maybe an acoustic cover next time.
