Helgorithms are a post-metal band from South Auckland, who’ve gained acclaim as one of the most promising young heavy bands to come out of New Zealand in some time.

The band have garnered praise for their live shows, during which Bailey Roiall, bass player for the three-piece, likes to jump off the wall of whatever venue the band are playing in.

Unfortunately, this didn’t end so well for Bailey during the band’s performance at Auckland’s Ding Dong Lounge on Friday night, with the bassist ending up in hospital.

“So what happened was that we were playing a song and what I like to do occasionally is jump and push myself from the wall,” Bailey recounted to The Music.

“I’ve done it many times before but this time I landed awkwardly… I knew straight away it was fucked really, as I came down and saw and heard it click.”

Apparently, Bailey had broken his right tibia and fibula, resulting in a rather gnarly looking injury, which has garnered a bit of attention from fans on the band’s Facebook page.

“You may have seen/heard that Bailey broke his leg at the gig on Friday,” the band wrote on Facebook, alongside a photo of the injured bass player. “Brutal.”

Not sure what it is, but rhythm section members do have a tendency to injure themselves. Just recall Frenzal Rhomb’s drummer breaking his arm in a botches stage dive last year.

UPDATE: This article originally reported that the gig took place at the Ding Dong Lounge in Melbourne. It actually took place at a venue of the same name in Auckland.
