The lineup of the Prophets of Rage supergroup, said to feature three members of Rage Against the Machine — Tom Morello, Brad Wilk, and Tim Commerford — Chuck D, and B-Real, has already been forced to defend itself from criticism.

Cypress Hill linchpin B-Real basically confirmed his place in the Prophets of Rage lineup by sharing the band’s artwork on his official Facebook page with the hashtag #riseup, but was soon forced to respond to a nasty commenter.

After a commenter claimed that “rap is a brainwashing disease on society” and that the inclusion of Chuck D and B-Real has turned “something that could be cool into more generic garbage”, the rapper dropped some serious knowledge.

“Now, sure there a many artists in rap music that put out garbage,” he opened. “This is a fact that can’t be denied. But to say that all of rap is a brainwashing disease and generic, well that is a statement from a person with a high IQ that sounds ignorant.”

“There have been plenty of positive albums and song in the hip hop culture. Let’s not forget that… Oh !! You already have otherwise I wouldn’t have had to state it. Your statement is generic. Work on it Mr High IQ.”

Meanwhile, Chuck D issued a preemptive strike to anyone who wishes to criticise the Public Enemy chief’s participation in the group. Whilst he still hasn’t been officially confirmed, the rap icon took to Twitter to set the record straight.

Simply writing, “The Heavyest Meanest leanest Hardest SOUNDing Assembled ACT on current music EARTH, I swear MY LOUDEST voice on it. Period. #fkAround”, Chuck put any claims Prophets of Rage wouldn’t honour all three groups to rest.
