Earlier this week The Avalanches gave fans a reason to hold on to hope with a mysterious teaser trailer, seemingly promoting an upcoming documentary on just what the band has been up to since they dropped their timeless debut, Since I Left You.

Fans pretty much divided into two camps: those who believe the teaser is part of a campaign to hype up a new album and those who think it’s yet another in a long line of broken promises from the group, whose second album has had endless false starts.

Eventually, a couple of shrewd super-fans on Reddit managed to put all the pieces together and with the help of Shazam and social media figured out that we should have new music from The Avalanches in the form of new single ‘Frankie Sinatra’ today.

Well, we do indeed have new music from The Avalanches that you can hear, but it’s not ‘Frankie Sinatra’, the group’s much-hyped collab with Danny Brown. Nor is it even in the form of a traditional single which you can get on iTunes or Spotify.

As Redditor bydg recently noted, mysterious Avalanches posters apparently spruiking the band’s Since They Left Us documentary have been spotted in London. The posters feature a telephone number, which Aussie callers can access at +44 800 098 8938.

When the number connects, a loop of new Avalanches music, previously heard in the Since They Left Us trailer, begins to play. According to some Redditors, when they Shazam the loop, it brings up info for an Avalanches song allegedly titled ‘Subways’.

If you’re having trouble accessing the number or simply don’t want to rack up a huge phone bill or waste your minutes, you can check out a recorded excerpt of the song allegedly titled ‘Subways’ via Vocaroo right here.
