Some of your favourite homegrown musicians, including members of The Jungle Giants, The Belligerents, and Moses Gunn Collective have banded together to open a cafe in the inner suburbs of Brisbane.

As Broadsheet reports, Keeln Bijker, best known as the drummer for local heroes The Jungle Giants, is now the proprietor of Two Donkeys, which is nested within the ground floor of the new Spring Hill Novotel.

According to Bijker, his hospitality experience is limited. “I worked at a coffee shop in 2012 for about six months. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind. It’s been good, though, deciding what you want to do and how you want to do it,” he told Broadsheet.

“We want to keep it simple. One bean, no cold drip – one thing done well,” he continued. “Same with the menu. There’s all-day breakfast, lunch from 11am, about 10 items on the menu.”

Bijker tapped some of his fellow Brisbane musos to bring his project to life. Sam Sargent of The Belligerents and Moses Gunn Collective built the bar, tabletops, and shelving, and Morning Harvey‘s Spencer White is head barista.

Two Donkeys is located at 97 Astor Terrace, Spring Hill. You can pop in for a coffee made from Gold Coast coffee beans, fresh pastries from Crust & Co, and other delectable delights.

Once you’re done there, consider heading over to the Southside Tea Room venue at Morningside, which you may know is owned by Patience Hodgson and John Patterson from Brisbane band The Grates, and which expanded operations back in 2014.

You can head over to the Southside Tea Room for a coffee and a snack and then pop inside Death Valley, the bar Patience and John opened next door, which is named after their record label and boasts a beer garden and permanent food truck.
