We don’t have to remind you of Guy Sebastian’s recent appearance on triple j’s Like A Version. You saw it, we saw it, and it was actually glorious. Our Australian Idol teamed up with producer Paces for a cover of L D R U’s ‘Keeping Score’.

With Paces keeping the beat and Guy handling vocals and keyboard duties, the duo’s performance was a sterling cover of L D R U and Paige IV’s tune, which you may recall landed just outside the Top 20 in this year’s triple j Hottest 100.

But what did Drew Carmody, aka L D R U himself, think of the cover? He recently caught up with triple j’s Linda Marigliano to reveal that he not only loved the cover, but he’s already gotten in touch with Guy to organise their own collaboration.

“Goosebumps. Straight up goosebumps,” Carmody said of his reaction. “It was absolute fire. I just remember hearing it from the start and as soon as his vocals came in it was just crazy. And then Mikey, when that drop — that kind of synthy sound on the drop — it’s very cool.”

Carmody was so hyped by the cover he sent his props over to Guy via Twitter, who responded, “but seriously nothing can touch that original man!! Your production is crazy. Mikey’s [Paces] a top bloke and raves about you”.

Carmody then informed the homegrown hit-maker that he in fact has “a beat with your name all over it” and asked the Australian Idol to get in touch with him if he’d be interested in working on their own little collaboration.]

“He ended up messaging me saying ‘send ’em over’,” Carmody recounted to triple j. “So I’ve sent the beats and hopefully we get something back soon.” According to Carmody, the vibe of the tune is similar to ‘Keeping Score’.

The producer told Marigliano that the potential Guy collab captures “that hip hop kind of feel but more of like a upbeat dancey sort of hip hop. Something that makes you want to get up and dance and have a bit of fun”.
