Aussie music lovers, get excited because The Oblivious Maximus Podcast has announced its second leap into the world of live podcasting this winter. Hosted by Aaron Osborne, Oblivious Maximus is a look into the incredibly rich Australian music scene by music lover and musician.

The podcast came about because as Osborne explains “I’ve been playing in bands and talking my ass off at shows since I was 13 years old. This passion for music, conversation and consumption of alcohol has never ended and I can’t see that happening anytime soon. In light of this, I’m attempting to record as many conversations with interesting people empowered by and passionate about music or involved with the music industry as possible.”

Inviting crowds along to witness the controlled chaos, Oblivious Maximus will host two live shows to discuss music, life and most likely Michael Jackson or Eyehategod. Osborne will attempt to steer his eclectic mix of guests into sharing personal experience and knowledge about various elements of the music industry and being a part of the world of alternative music as a whole to help enlighten and entertain listeners, and attendees!

To celebrate the upcoming live podcast season and to help you get a little more familar with the world of podcasting, Aaron has curated a list of the other music podcasts you should be subscribing to right now. Check out his list below and get listening. Dates below and

Intro

Before I start down the path of discussing music podcasts, I will confess right off the bat, that I don’t listen to too many of them. As someone who records one myself, that probably sounds really stupid, and something I should fix, but y’know, I’m happy with my choices. Leave me alone.

Regardless, here are five of my picks for podcasts you should listen to when you’ve had enough of hearing my voice chatting away in the background while you drive your car or walk to work or do whatever else people do when they listen to podcasts. HERE WE GO!

Metal Blade Records Podcast

I’m a pretty big fan of talking nonsense about Metal, and these dudes do a good job of focusing that up and directing it at consummate musicians from the metal world.

The label has historically been a very reliable and legendary source of music that I listen to, releasing greats from the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Soilent Green, Bolt Thrower and more recently my mates in Twitching Tongues. Solid records, mad chats. Website: www.metalblade.com.

Talent Scout Podcast

Two brothers having cool chats with mad people, not strictly a music podcast, however they do converse with musicians on it, so that counts. As I said earlier, I don’t listen to a ton of strictly music podcasts but this is one that gets a good play from me! Bonus to this one, it’s Australian, and a good chunk of the guests are too.

In the current climate of the world it seems everyone has a podcast, and not that mine is anything more interesting or different, but it is sick seeing people having good conversations with Australian’s and not going the way of everything else, totally American. Website www.talentscoutpod.com

All My Friends Are in Bar Bands

If you have been to a show in Sydney, or many of the major cities in Australia for that matter, you will have seen David James Young kicking about. I met David through playing in my band I Exist, and he is a legendary dude, with a big heart that is very committed to the gig and loves music about as much as anyone could.

This podcast is him chatting to mates of his about music, and people he doesn’t know too, that I’m sure become his mates by the end of it. AUSTRALIA IS MAD, LISTEN TO OUR CONTENT PLEASE. Website: www.facebook.com/amfaibbpod

Who Charted?

A podcast that counts down charts of the week, one of these features music, so again, this counts as a music podcast. This podcast is great because not only does it feature awesome comedians having a good chinwag about things, it also has very funny hosts as well.

If you like comedy as much as I do, and haven’t been listening to it, start doing so, it’s very good. The Earwolf network produces a huge chunk of bangers, this is another. www.earwolf.com/who-charted

Analyze Phish

Comedy Bang Bang! Is my favourite podcast, and my best way of giving that a plug in a top five about music podcasts is to talk about this gem of audio hilarity. Harris Wittels converses with CBB host Scott Aukerman about the band Phish (which Harris loves, and Scott hates) to try and change his perception of them, and encourage him to enjoy their music.

It is fucking hilarious and just writing this is reminding me to download all the episodes again and give them another listen. Wittels sadly passed away last year, and the world is a lot less funny now thanks to his passing, but we will always have this, and his appearances on CBB and Parks and Recreation to laugh at in his honour. MUSIC AND FUNNY, MY KINDA LISTENING! Website: www.earwolf.com/analyze-phish
