We’re just over a month out from Splendour In The Grass, which is set to play host to a jam-packed lineup of the world’s biggest bands, including The Strokes, The Cure, and At The Drive-In, who’ve now been forced to cancel their current US tour.

The legendary post-hardcore outfit was set to finish a US run before embarking on a string of European dates and heading Down Under for Splendour and a few headline shows, but have been sidelined by frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala’s health issues.

As triple j reports, the band were forced to cancel shows in Washington D.C. last week and cancelled a show at New York City’s Terminal 5 at the last minute over the weekend, with guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and drummer Tony Hajar addressing the crowd.

“[Cedric] has nodules on his throat,” they said. “If he continues to sing then he won’t be able to sing in the long run, it’s the bigger picture we’re looking at here. We’re just as upset as you guys are.”

“Guys I feel absolutely horrible but I’ve lost my voice,” Bixler-Zavala wrote on Twitter. “I was hoping to heal up by show time but I can barely speak. My sincerest apologies NYC I tried everything in my power to try and do it.”

“I can barely talk. We promise to make it up to you. To those of you who flew and threw down your hard earned money for the love of @AtTheDriveIn I really want to thank you for your support.” The band subsequently cancelled the rest of their US tour.

North American performances up to 25th June have been scrapped, however the cancellations have not affected band’s upcoming European festival appearances and their spot on the Splendour In The Grass lineup is still a go.
