The upcoming Ghostbusters has been divisive and controversial since day one. Some particularly critical folks are even straight up boycotting the movie, accusing it of basically taking a dump on their childhood memories.

But all the vitriol directed at the film, which it should be noted hasn’t been released yet, pales in comparison to the level of sheer hatred that is being levelled at the theme song, which comes courtesy of Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott.

We know what you’re thinking: “That’s an… interesting combination.” Interesting? Yeah. Good? Not so much. Let’s just say it doesn’t live up to Ray Parker Jr’s original Ghostbusters theme, which topped charts and earned an Oscar nomination.

As News Corp reports, critics have been savaging ‘Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid)’, with The Verge noting that the theme song is “specifically designed to make you realise what could actually retroactively ruin a 30-year-old movie”.

Cinemablend went one further by insisting the tune “barely qualifies as music” and Polygon reckon “the new Ghostbusters theme features Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott, and sadness”.

User reviews on YouTube haven’t been gracious either. “I wanna drink bleach after listening to this,” one commenter noted. You can check out the new Ghostbusters theme for yourself below. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
