Emily Wurramara may only be on her first official release, but she’s already being touted as both a talented and important young artist, drawing on Australia’s rich tradition of storytelling and music-making.

Black Smoke is Emily’s debut six-song EP, marked by her deft and confessional songcraft. Emily sings in both English and Anindilyakwa (annen-dilly-yark-wah), the traditional language of her home on Groote Eylandt, NT.

“The language songs are definitely a dedication to my grandmother,” said Emily of her debut release, which was produced by David Bridie (My Friend The Chocolate Cake: Not Drowning, Waving).

Emily, a seasoned performer, is set to celebrate the release of Black Smoke with a national tour which kicks off later this month and is set to visit major cities, as well as several spots in the Northern Territory.
