To paraphrase Jan Brady, “Melbourne, Melbourne, Melbourne!” It’s always about Melbourne, isn’t it? It’s not enough that it’s free of lockout laws and has politicians that dream up legendary policies like the ‘Agent of Change’ laws, it also gets all the new venues.

As The Music reports, yet another live music venue is opening up shop in the region, this time in Wheelers Hill, and it’s already got a formidable lineup that includes the likes of The Black Sorrows, the Skyhooks’ Bob Starkie, and Ross Wilson & The Peaceniks.

The Satellite Lounge, which will debut in August, is the latest addition to The Wheelers Hill Hotel and the only thing on its agenda will be live music, so you’d do well to head over to the venue’s official Facebook page and keep an eye on upcoming events.

According to the official website, The Satellite Lounge is hoping to take punters back to the days when live music was a part of every community, when “every Melbourne suburb had a hotel with live music… you watched Countdown, listened to the radio…”

“Times have changed and you now have to go into the city (mostly) to get your fix of live music,” management add. “It’s not just a thing you can do on a whim with taxis and parking costs adding up very quickly. Not to mention standing up for hours trying to get a decent viewing position.”

“Well now you have another choice, and it’s much closer to home!” The Satellite Lounge is just the latest live music venue to open up in Melbourne, which has seen a number of notable spots open in recent months, including a very cool new underground haunt.
