The AFL has copped a lot of criticism over the entertainment they book for the Grand Final each year, but no matter how loud fans scream and yell, they inevitably end up booking some international pop star and the whole thing is a total flop.

There’s entire groups dedicated to seeing Australian acts perform at the AFL Grand Final and the NRL proved why you need a homegrown act at a sporting grand final when they booked Cold Chisel and the veteran pub rockers absolutely tore it up on the stage.

Well, it seems they may finally be getting the message, booking Australian talent for their upcoming Multicultural Round Festival and no, it’s not just some faceless pub covers band who’ll come out and play a few Hunters & Collectors covers before departing the stage.

Acclaimed emcee L-Fresh The Lion, who recently appeared on our countdown of the best albums of 2016 so far, will perform at the AFL’s Multicultural Round Festival alongside pop outfit Justice Crew (yeah, we know, but still, L-Fresh The Lion).

“My performance is all about energy; there’s a lot of activity on stage, a lot of culture in the performance. I’m going to have people from many different backgrounds joining me on stage, there’s even going to be Punjabi Bhangra!” the rapper told Indian Link.

“There’s going to be a lot of movement for the audience – physically, definitely, but also mentally and emotionally.” Clearly, someone at the AFL’s events department knows a thing or two about local music. Now if we can just get King Gizzard to play the Grand Final…
