Previously unheard recordings by late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence and a documentary chronicling the last years of his life will be released over the next year.

As News Corp reports, X Studio owner Ron Creevey said he’s spent the last two years working on the lost Huthcence recordings with LA record producer Danny Saber.

“I heard some time ago about some unreleased music that was sitting out there and then I approached (Hutchence’s) trust directly,” Creevey said.

A total of 15 songs are set to be released, with Creevey stating that at least five of those 15 are “brilliant” and there will also be two duets featuring two “very big artists”.

Saber, who produced Hutchence’s self-titled 1999 posthumous solo album, said he and the late singer had been working on music together not long before he died in 1997.

“It’s sort of like a little treasure trove of stuff — essentially there were vocals and ideas and that’s the stuff that I’m reworking and we’re going to be releasing,” he said of the material.

Meanwhile, Creevey is also working on a documentary covering the last years of Hutchence’s life, gaining access to artefacts including photos developed from a camera the singer used not long before he died.

Creevey intends to release the documentary next year to mark the 20th anniversary of Hutchence’s death, despite previous statements from INXS’s manager, Chris Murphy, who threatened to sue anyone releasing material under the INXS name.

“I do know every single individual and or company who interfere with INXS/Michael copyrights are about to find themselves in very deep legal trouble,” Murphy wrote in an email to AAP.

However, Creevey does not claim to have any claim over the music and intends to release the first new solo Hutchence single before Christmas, close to the 19th anniversary of Hutchence’s death.
