Regional Australia often misses out on the big shows. That’s why the punters appreciate it whenever a festival or an artist decides to visit their parts, and why events such as triple j’s One Night Stand are such a beloved staple.

Well, regional Victoria is about to get a big leg up thanks to the Visit Victoria initiative. As part of Visit Victoria, a $20 million Regional Events Fund has been established to “support the attraction, development, marketing and growth of events in regional Victoria”.

The government are hoping the millions in funding can be used to develop a solid events calendar for the region and work in partnership with the state and regional tourism brands and drive economic impact by increasing tourism to regional Victoria.

You can apply for funding via the Visit Victoria website. The grants can be used to “assist with the costs associated with securing, hosting and marketing new events” or implementing “innovative strategies” to increase visitation to existing events.

Applicants are invited to submit an Expression of Interest so Visit Victoria can undertake an initial assessment to determine eligibility and provide applicants with feedback prior to the submission of a full funding application.

Applications will be considered from “a broad range of organisations”, including private sector organisations, local governments, regional tourism organisations, industry groups, and not-for-profit organisations.

However, only events held within the 11 campaign regions currently defined by Visit Victoria are eligible for funding. Head over to the official Visit Victoria website for more info or check out the application guidelines here.
