Bowie, Prince and Lemmy were all enduring legends who of course received countless accolades and an outpouring of emotion from all across the globe after their passing. But 2016 saw the passing of another music icon whose legacy may have passed by much of the general audience, but whose contributions to music are just as monumental as any that have come before or since.

George Martin – often referred to as ‘The Fifth Beatle’ – has had a profound and long-lasting influence over pop and rock music for decades, having revolutionised studio recording techniques and compositions time and time again. He was the driving force behind the biggest and most influential group of all time as they collected over 50 number 1 singles across the U.K. and U.S.

To celebrate his incredible life’s work, You Am I guitarist Davey Lane is directing a special tribute together with Cherry Rock, bringing together some of Melbourne’s rock stalwarts at the Corner Hotel this Friday for The Fifth Beatle – A Celebration.

The posse will be playing a curated assortment of songs from Martin’s time with The Beatles, so you can expect to hear classics like Please Please Me, A Hard Day’s Night, You’re Gonna Lose That Girl, Hey Jude, While My Guitar Gently Weeps and many more played by a super-group of talented Melbourne rockers.

Davey Lane performs ‘Handle With Care’, a George Harrison co-write, on RocKwiz.

Performances will feature Davey Lane (You Am I and Jim Keays) and Ashley Naylor (RockWiz Orchestra and Even) on guitar and vocals, Stephen Hadley (Tex Perkins) on bass, Matt Cotter (Even) and Brett Wolfenden (Davey Lane Group, Dirty York) on drums, and Jim Fleming (Eagle & The Worm, Fraser A. Gorman and Davey Lane Group) on keys.
