Back in June, rock fans around the world rejoiced when Queens of the Stone Age revealed they were ready to get back to work following the release of their last critically hailed album, …Like Clockwork, three years ago.

Speaking recently to the Let There Be Talk podcast, frontman and songwriter Josh Homme, who’d just completed a tour with Iggy Pop to promote their collaborative record, said a QOTSA regrouping was the next thing on his agenda.

“Yeah, [a QOTSA return is up next on my schedule],” Homme told the podcast. “Same lineup, we’re locked in. We’re having a meeting tomorrow about what we’re gonna do.” Presumably, Homme is referring to the lineup of …Like Clockwork.

Now, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and all-round QOTSA staple Troy Van Leeuwen has revealed the band have already reconvened and are hoping to record this year. “We’ve already started talking about what we’re gonna do next for the next Queens record,” told 2 Hours with Matt Pinfield.

“We’re excited to get back together to follow-up …Like Clockwork,’ which was a really, really big record for us, personally,” he said. “It was a big record for us ’cause it was the hardest record to make. And we’re trying to not do that again. We just want to keep things simpler and try that, I guess.”

As Music Feeds note, Van Leeuwen told Pinfield that “there’s tons of ideas that are bouncing around” and the bands are “going to do something before the end of the year, as far as recording goes”.

The last update we heard from the band was last March when Shuman said the band had no plans: “There will be future stuff with Queens, we’re just taking a break since we had long, long two years of touring. We’ll take a break to do other stuff.”
