The new wave of hate that’s been aimed at ‘All Star’ hit-makers Smash Mouth over the past few months has been somewhat confounding. It was seemingly triggered by that video of them being pelted with bread.

The video apparently woke everyone up to the fact that Smash Mouth were still a thing. It’s been pretty much a free for all since then and the band don’t do themselves any favours by actively feeding the trolls.

It’s a confusing state of affairs because unlike say Nickelback, Smash Mouth had the good grace to become totally irrelevant and haven’t even bothered to release an album since the ’90s… as far as we know, anyway.

Apparently the new sour sentiments thrust upon the band have inspired them to hit the studio. They’ve now churned out a single entitled ‘Love Is A Soldier’ and if you’re into classic Smash Mouth, you’re going to be disappointed.

Somebody once told us the world is going to roll us and ‘Love Is A Soldier’ certainly does that. The EDM collaboration with some DJ named Specter (ooh, Specter!) is even more terrible than you can imagine.

The combination of lyrics like, “Sex is a gun, you’re ammunition“, and the corny beat have led to a massive 800 views on YouTube since it was posted earlier this month, and 47 of those viewers didn’t like what they saw.

Okay, we have an actual reason to hate Smash Mouth now.
