Another instalment of Splendour In The Grass has come and gone and we now have only our memories of the good times had to hold onto… well, that’s true for at least some of us. Others may be having a hard time remembering.

This may or may not be due to the fact that they were enjoying better living through chemistry or because they spent more time on apps like Pokemon Go and Tinder than actually enjoying any of the bands or other entertainment.

According to Junkee, at this year’s Splendour the two worlds actually came together. According to a number of the Splendour punters they spoke to this year, Tinder, Grindr, and Snapchat are regularly used to score drugs at music festivals.

“About 25 percent of the groups that I came across [at Splendour] on Tinder were made up of people looking for drugs,” one punter told Junkee. The “groups” refer to a relatively recent Tinder function that facilitates group dates.

However, Splendour punters looking to get munted were setting up groups with pretty explicit names like “Drugs” and “We want drugs” or advertising their desire for drugs in their bios (presumably writing “I want drugs”) in order to find anybody who was willing to sell.

“There were heaps of people who were just looking for drugs on Tinder,” another attendee told Junkee. “I wasn’t looking for any personally, I already had everything I needed but I did get asked by a few people.”

“One girl I matched with about two hours into the festival asked me for drugs and when I said no she unmatched me straight away.” However, according to yet another punter, people weren’t necessarily using Tinder to buy drugs, but simply “hang out and get high together”.

“There was a lot of selling and dealing going on through Grindr,” another Splendour ticket-holder said. “They’d have ‘Caps for Splendour’ or something as their name and then prices or details in their bio.”
