Just a week after we reported on Good Charlotte’s lacklustre sales, they’ve suffered a massive tumble on the ARIA albums chart. Their latest LP, Youth Authority, has joined the list of albums with the biggest falls from Number 1 on the ARIA chart.

As News Corp reports, Youth Authority debuted at Number 1 last week after selling just 3,884 copies, but has now fallen to Number 17 after only managing to shift 935 copies in its second week.

However, as News Corp note, whilst the drop is one of the biggest of the year, it’s not the biggest fall from Number 1 in ARIA chart history. That accolade belongs to your mum’s favourite crooner, Michael Buble, who drops from the top spot every year.

Buble’s Christmas album, which features the Canadian singer’s smoothly rendered holiday classics, hits the top spot every December before plummeting in January. Back in January 2014, Christmas went from Number 1 to Number 34.

However, Buble is unlikely to be red-faced about the annual drop. Christmas has sold more than 900,000 copies in Australia, spending a collective 13 weeks atop the ARIA albums chart.

Meanwhile, legendary hard rockers KISS hold the Australian record for biggest drop of a non-seasonal release (it’s an important distinction, since Christmas albums like Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas climb the chart every December).

KISS’s 1998 album Psycho Circus fell from Number 1 to Number 33, writing the band into the Aussie chart record books where they sit alongside names like Short Stack, whose Stack is the New Black fell from Number 1 to Number 13 in 2009.

The 1975 experienced an identical dip back in January this year with their album I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It and months later The Temper Trap fell from the top spot to Number 14 with Thick As Thieves.

It’s been a worrying year for sales overall, with 2016 seeing some of the lowest selling Number 1 albums in chart history, such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ The Getaway, which remained atop the charts in its second week with just 3,638 sales.

However, there have been some bright spots. Flume’s Skin shifted 17,708 copies to top the Aussie albums chart, and there’s been some big units shifted from the likes of Prince and Beyonce.

In addition to completely selling out their blockbuster WACO tour with Dune Rats and DZ Deathrays, Violent Soho moved 9,799 copies of their latest album. Of course, Beyonce still holds the record for 2016’s highest debut with 20,499 first week sales of Lemonade.
