As you may have heard, we’ve kind of declared war on the use of electronic drum pads in triple j Like A Version Covers. It’s not the actual drum pads we hate, but what they represent.

As we’ve noted numerous times, there’s been a disturbing homogeneity among Like A Version covers in recent months. We’re not sure when it started, but many of the covers we see week-in week-out have become rather formulaic.

That’s why it was so refreshing to see acclaimed UK singer-songwriter Jake Bugg come in and lay down an old-school cover of HAIM’s ‘If I Could Change Your Mind’, comprised of just two acoustic guitars and his inimitable vocals.

Bugg even reworked the song to make it almost unrecognisable from the original. The lyrics are the same ones you know and love, but Bugg came up with his own original composition, laying down his own chords and melody’s over HAIM’s spiritual framework.
